Backup and moving to a new computer
A practical sequence for moving files and checking that what you need is available on your new computer.

Decide what to transfer
Separate active projects, personal documents and archives. Record their locations. Add a list of applications, email accounts and peripherals you use. This gives the migration a specific scope and makes the estimate reflect the actual work.
Check what your backup includes
Windows Backup can help with selected folders and settings using an appropriate Microsoft account. Check what was actually saved; do not assume every drive and every application’s data is included. We agree on an additional separate copy for important files.
Keep the old device until you check the new one
Open several important files and check a typical work task on the new computer. Only discuss erasing the old device after reviewing the result together. If the old drive is unreadable, normal migration may not be possible; it is different from physical drive recovery.
